Director and major shareholder of Iron Fortune Pty Ltd.

Has over 35 years’ experience in corporate and commercial law, including acting as in-house counsel with a private investment bank. Advises publicly listed and private companies in general corporate law, corporate governance, M&A, initial public offers, capital raisings and cross border transactions across a diverse range of industries, from energy and resources to media, financial services, biotechnology and transport. Experienced in many forms of commercial contracts, including trading and supply agreements, joint ventures and in dealing with foreign investment and competition and consumer issues. Ian runs his own legal practice in Melbourne.

MARY THOMPSON

BA (Univ of Melb); Grad Dip Fin; M App Fin (Macquarie Uni); Fellow, Institute of Quarrying Australia, GAICD

Founder, principal and major shareholder of Iron Fortune. Principal of Australian railway track contractor.

During a 16 year career in investment banking, worked as a portfolio manager covering both the mining and oil and gas sectors. After several years with both J B Were and Bankers Trust, spent her last 10 years in investment banking at Macquarie, where she held the position of head of the Private Bank – Melbourne, and was also one of the founding management team within the Margin Lending Division. During the past 15 years, Mary has bought, operated and successfully exited a quarrying company and worked in senior roles in the civil contracting sector prior to purchasing a railway contracting company. Holds qualifications as a Quarry Manager and has a licence to use explosives in quarries and open cut mines. A former Chairman of the Victorian Branch of the Institute of Quarrying, Mary is a Fellow of the Institute of Quarrying. Mary is Victorian Deputy President and a National Advisory Committee member of Australia’s peak employer group, Ai Group. In 2018 Mary was appointed to the Reserve Bank of Australia’s Small Business Finance Advisory Panel for a 3 year term.
